Loop Clamps and Their Use

Whether you are working with vacuum hose assemblies in an aircraft or the tubing of a building, it is often very important that such products are well secured to prevent various issues like damage or leaking. For vacuum hoses in particular, leaking is highly detrimental as it will result in a loss of the vacuum. As such, vacuum hose components need to be secured at their mating surface, that of which is done with the use of a loop clamp. Loop clamps can be found in a number of applications and areas, always securing and sealing mating surfaces of tubing to prevent leaks.

Loop clamps are actually a form of spring clamp, and they commonly come in a loop or a semi-circular shape. With their circular shape, they can easily fit over hoses, tubes, and other components that need to be secured. Whenever a vacuum hose or similar assembly is being installed for the first time, a set of loop clamps should be used for ample security. As vacuum hoses are pressurized, the loop clamps will secure them to the fitting at hand so that leaks are prevented.

Like other types of clamps belonging to the spring clamp family, loop clamps are capable of supplying a consistent and uniform pressure on hoses. Before installing such hose clamps, the vacuum hose itself will need to be placed over a fitting. Then, the loop clamp can be opened and placed over the vacuum hose before being situated toward the end. As it is closed and tightened, the loop clamp will apply pressure to keep the vacuum hose sealed and secured to the fitting.

One of the major benefits of loop clamps is their ease of installation, as securing such clamps to hoses does not require any special tools or screwdriver. Rather, loop clamps can be installed completely by hand, only requiring one to press them open so that they can be slid over the end of a hose. To make the mounting process easier, many loop clamps feature mounting holes which are slots designed to assist in mounting. With the slotted mounting holes, fasteners can be driven through to secure the clamp to a supporting structure so that there is a very low chance of accidental removal.

As uniform pressure is often quite beneficial for vacuum hoses and other similar assemblies, loop clamps are a very optimal choice as compared to alternatives. Other clamp types may not be uniform in their pressure application, leading to excessive pressure in particular spots which can hinder performance or hose integrity. As such, loop clamps are a safer option to prevent any damage or issues. Additionally, loop clamps last a long time, boasting low rates of premature failure. This durability is partly due to their construction, such clamps regularly being constructed from metals such as aluminum and steel.
